A few weeks ago, we reported that edge protection would be firmly on the agenda for the 2013 Safety & Health Expo, thanks to the Access Industry Forum’s Work at Height Zone.
Now the agenda has been published in full, we can confirm that edge protection’s potential to change lives – or to prevent them from being changed for the worse – will be a hallmark of the event.
The message coming loud and clear from the Work at Height Zone will be: “”Work at Height Accidents Must STOP!””
But it could be the daily presentations by Paul Blanchard that have the most impact, as the titles of his talks demonstrate.
On Tuesday, May 14th, Mr Blanchard gets the event underway at 10:40am with a speech entitled ‘I never thought I’d end up in a wheelchair – a fall can happen to anyone’.
The following morning, his second presentation is entitled ‘Fragile roof/fragile life’.
Finally, on the Thursday, his third speech carries the title ‘Accidents happen to experienced people too!’.
Together, the presentations tackle head-on the lackadaisical attitude towards safety at height that can come from working above-ground on a regular basis, as well as awareness of related issues such as sturdy walkovers for otherwise fragile roofs.
